Winning The Lottery

A couple of years ago I arrived at work on the Monday to start my weekly grind of just earning enough money to pay the bills. One of my fellow workers was a guy in his early fifties called Phil. He like me was working his butt off just to pay the bills.

He arrived this particular morning with a smile as wide as the River Mersey and i was just about to find out why. On the Saturday night he was out on his weekend shift as a taxi driver, this was his way of earning extra cash to pay for holidays etc. Phil's wife was baby sitting for their son and his partner whilst they went into town to celebrate a birthday.

It was well past midnight when Phil received a call that changed his life forever. It was his son on the other end of the phone who as Phil put it sounded like he'd had one drink too many.

His Son went on to tell his dad that they had just won the UK National Lottery, and Phil being a bit of a joker said hows is a tenner going to change your life? His son went on to explain to Phil that he'd actually got all six numbers up on the lottery. Phil informed him that not to be so stupid and to put his mother on the phone, which he duly did. Jannice went on to say to Phil that although the son was a bit tipsy she had checked the ticket for herself and assured Phil that they really had won the lottery with all six numbers coming up.

Phil dropped off the customer he had in his taxi and raced home still not believing the conversations he had just had with his son and his wife. When he arrived at his house he was met with his wife, son and his son's partner all staring at the lottery ticket which was placed on the coffee table and the TV on showing the winning numbers on teletext.

Phil grabbed the ticket and immediately scanned the television. He scratched his head in disbelief as he quickly realised this was not one of his sons usual windups.

They phoned Camelot who confirmed that they had one of two winning tickets for Saturday nights draw and that they would be looking at a share of just under £5 million. A few days later Phil's son picked up his cheque for £2.3 million.

His son has now emigrated to Canada taking his windfall with him.So you see Phil's life has changed forever for the better or the worse who knows?
